KUMHO CULTURAL FOUNDATION

The Kumho Cultural Foundation´s motto is “to encourage talent and cultivate the arts”. Since its inception in 1977, the foundation has dedicated itself to supporting and promoting talented Korean classical musicians, artists and academics.

The foundation supports the development of classical music in Korea, especially by finding young musical prodigies and providing them with international opportunities so they can become world-class musicians.

The foundation runs three different music halls designed exclusively for classical music: the Kumho Art Hall, the Kumho Recital Hall and the Munho Hall. Additionally, the foundation manages the Free Instrument Bank which provides musicians with prestigious old instruments free of charge and offers financial support in the form of air tickets and scholarships.

The Kumho Art Hall, designed specifically for classical music, opened in December 2000 at Kwang Hwa Mun. It boasts three separate concert series every week which amounts to nearly 380 performances a year. The venue thus provides listeners with the unique opportunity to attend a music concert every single day of the year.

The Kumho Prodigy Concert series has now reached its 280th concert since its inception in July 1998. Its main purpose is to promote Korean musical prodigies under the age of 14 so they can lead the future of classical music.

The Kumho Young Artists Concert series focused primarily on young Korean musicians, the Kumho Special Concert series features renowned musicians from all over the world. Kyung-Hwa Jung, Dong-Suk Kang, Phillip Muller, Daniel Lee, Heinz Holliger, Mark Kosower, Peter Frankl, Arto Noras and Phantasm Viol have all performed at the Kumho Art Hall.
